What is Yoga?

Yoga means the union of body, mind and spirit. Hatha Yoga is the physical form of yoga designed to bring balance and well being into your life. It is the perfect lifetime fitness program and totally different from any other kind of exercise. We stretch the body from the bone to the skin and from the head to the toes, which helps quiet the mind and energize the body. The movements of this yoga reach deep into the tissue, relieve tension and stress and revitalize and assist in overcoming many physical and emotional problems such as sciatica, back and neck problems and depression. The 26 postures in Bikram’s Yoga sequence enhance strength, flexibility, muscle tone, balance and concentration.

What if I'm not flexible?

This is the most common misconception that prevents people from coming to a yoga class. Yoga is not about how flexible you are; it is about stretching your body and spine. The more inflexible you are, the more you need yoga. You become flexible by doing yoga.

Why is the room heated?

The room is intentionally hot, heated to the temperature of the human body. It is heated to warm your muscles, prevent injuries and allow for a deeper release of tensions in your body. Sweating will also help flush toxins and poisons from your body. Heat also adds to the cardiovascular benefits of Bikram Yoga.

How do I get started?

Come 10 minutes before the starting time of class. Bring a mat, towel and a water bottle. Be prepared to sweat. Students need to wear lightweight, movable clothing. We suggest fitness shorts and top. For men we suggest a expandable waist shorts. We suggest eating a light meal 2 to 3 hours before class.

How often should I practice?

Yoga must practice daily or on a regular basis with no long lapses of time between lessons in order to be effective.  A minimum commitment of 10 classes in 30 days is required if you are to derive any benefit from this yoga program. But remember any yoga you can do is better than no yoga.
